Tips & Tricks: How to Remove Stubborn Mascara.. the Cheap and Easy Way

I'm a fan of Japanese brand mascaras because of how they make my lashes long, volumized, and curly. But boy oh boy when they say it's waterproof, weather proof, smudge proof, all-proof, IT REALLY IS!
Some are even oil proof! So your cleansing milks and oils wont budge the sucker without harshly rubbing your eyes. *ouch*

Now how do I remove my mascaras?

WARM WATER

Yup. I think they should indicate this on their packaging as well!

I dip my cotton ball or pad on to a tub of warm water.. press it gently on my lashes (eyes closed please) and gently smooth away the mascara.. You can see bits sliding off and dont be scared! Theyre not your lashes! Theyre the mascara gunk!

Warm water removal is also beneficial for our eyes at it can sooth eyebags and relax our eye tissue.

Review: Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus

I fnished up 3 tubes of this mascara since 2 years ago so this review is really overdue, heh.

795php at Majolica Majorca from SM Department Stores

Tip: Use the flat side of the brush to place the fibers on the tip of your lashes, and use the comb to comb, fix and separate.
Tip: You should be very careful not to blink for around 15 seconds until it is somewhat dry as this mascara has a very liquid formulation and once it sticks, it's stuck :)

It gives very dramatic lashes and it lasts until you take it of using a very potent makeup remover.

I highly recommend this to everyone as this mascara is holy grail material if you don't mind giving extra effort in removal. It lengthens, it volumizes, it darkens, it holds the curl. It does not smudge, it does not flake, it will not give you racoon eyes.

and for my final update of my neutrogena task.. Ive been also using their moisturizer at night and it does make my skin feel like a baby's bottom.. can't stop touching it...

Maybelline Long Extreme Lash Stiletto Mascara Review

Oohh.. lots of hand marks on the product
Price: 499php
Where to Buy: Almost any department store, drugstore, grocery that has Maybelline
Had to give in.. will provide bigger and more detailed photos to everyone. Thanks Julia of Bless my Bag for the tip.

This is currently the mascara Ive been using everyday. It holds the curl, it lengthens, and it defines my lashes. Removing is a breeze with any makeup remover and it lasts the whole day too on me with minimal panda eyes. Next is a photo my lashes wearing the mascara. As you can see, theyre still thin and flimsy, and the effect is very natural.

Sorry forgot to pluck!

What I Like:
  • It looks natural on the lashes, it makes you look like you have natural long lashes
  • Holds up the curl
  • Minimal smudging after around 8 hours with some eye rubbin action
  • Inexpensive
  What I Dont Like:
  • It flakes a bit, especially the tiny fibers
  • With flimsy lashes like mine, on occasions I would prefer something more dramatic
  • Dries up quickly, had it for a month and its starting to show the creamy smudgy dryness that means its about to expire
Who would I recommend this to?
Anyone who wants an everyday mascara. If you already have long lashes, maybe you want something that will provide you more volume instead. I highly recommend Maybelline's Cat's Eye or Volum Express.

Etude House Proof10 Henna Mascara

As you all know, one of the best makeup item you can own is a mascara. You can skip makeup like foundation or blush if you want but having an eye that just look ka-pow makes a gal look blooming and awake (except when you get the dreaded racoon eyes O_O). A mascara that is volumizing, lengthening, curling, waterproof, yet easy to remove. That was a dream of mine. Has this impossible dream come to reality?

Review: Kiss Me Heroine Make Me Long and Curl Mascara

*whew* That was a long name. Japanese makeups tend to have a long name that it describes the product itself completely! Haha

What I Like
  • It lengthens, it volumizes! Just like they said
  • It doesnt  clump. It didnt clump or gave me spider lashes up to 8 coats
  • I can put mascara on my lower lashes without smudging
  • Lasted me throughout the day
What I don’t Like
  • The brush, it's hard to coat the smaller lashes
  • As with all japanese mascaras, this was hard to remove
  • I dont like the cheapo packaging hehe
Who will I recommend this to?
To non-experts who want a fuss free mascara application without the clumps

Will I repurchase?
Nope. Haha, have not found my HG mascara yet.

Review + Pictures: Great Lash is Really Great!

Whew! I finally get to try this infamous mascara from Maybelline. I believe this was one of the first mascaras they released when they started the brand and gained popularity because some people thought it was great, but majority thought it plained sucked.

I was intrigued and want to see for myself if this mascara was as bad as people claimed it to be, so I had very low expectations. But to my surprise, it actually worked well! Better than my Colossal Mascara (emptied! yey!) and can be used as my mascara for normal daily usage.

The wand looks like a regular wand, quite smaller than some brushes I have used before. The texture of the mascara is very liquidy, no complicated fibers. I got this in blackest black and it is indeed one of the most black mascaras I've used. Since it is liquidy, it took me a bit to get used to applying this since the first time I tried, it was a mess! Haha..

Left eye with Maybelline Great Lash, did not use any eyelash curler.

Pardon moi for the messy brows and the nose pimple *sob*. I was surprised that it kinda lifted up my lashes even without the use of curler, lengthened, and also did give a bit of volume. Wow.

*Tip: Do not wait between application to coat. Apply when still wet, just load it on, layer it when wet and it will not clump.

 What I Like
  • Cheap. Only cost me around 100 pesos (2 dollars) on ebay
  • Washable.
  • Volumized, lengthened, curled.
What I don’t Like
  • Tricky to apply
  • Smudged a bit after a few hours. Yes it smudges. But I dont mind :) Nothing a little qtip cant fix.

Who will I recommend this to?
Gals who want a no-frill mascara to use everyday. Those who dont want to have the chore of removing waterproof mascara every night and have their lashes flake off.

Review: Maybelline Colossal Mascara

Looking for a cheap daily alternative, I resorted to purchase Maybelline Colossal Mascara since  Im looking for a decent washable mascara that can give me the volume I want everyday. I cannot bare to use my Imju Fiberwig or my other Japanese branded mascara since it really takes an effort to apply and remove everyday. I'm always in a hurry when going to work and got no time to do all the prepping.

Sad to say I'm very disappointed with this mascara. It's all flakey, smudgy, and spidery at the end of the day. It also doesnt  hold a curl that well that I had to wait for the mascara to dry and then curl my lashes again (which takes a lot of time!)

I shouldnt have let go of my Maybelline Volume Express Hypercurl/Cat's Eye even when they were about to expire. Or I should have purchase extra tubes of them instead (but hey! both of them are waterproof and a hassle to remove as well)

So my search is still not over for that perfect daily mascara. My requirements? Washable, holds curl, give ample length and volume, smudgeproof, will not give a spidery leg effect *shivers*.
Maybe you can suggest a mascara for me to try? :)

Please note that whatever did not work for me may work for you, and vice-versa. This is just my opinion so feel free to try this product also *wink* just as I'm very much curious with Maybelline's Great Lash (which has lots of RANTS by the way hehe)
I just ordered Maybelline Great Lash Mascara to try (with all the rantings and raves I just had to see for myself)

Imju Fiberwig Mascara : A Review + Tutorial

I finally got to open and try out the famous Imju Fiberwig Mascara! This is the first of my 3 tubes (and I will buy more!!! WAHAHA) and one is for giveaway. Hurry! Since contest is only up to January 15 2010

Based from the their website:

Fiberwig contains double the fiber for dramatic length! Plenty of fibers adhere and seal unto your lashes. The more you apply, the longer your lashes become!

Fiberwig is made up of two types of extra thin nylon fibers; a short and a long fiber. The short and long fibers intertwine to form a light and smooth film coating that gently surrounds and seals unto your lashes.
As the fibers seal unto your lashes, they seal unto each other. As a result the extended fiber lashes give your natural lashes the appearance of extreme length!

Take plenty fibers and apply it unto your lashes repeatedly, no need to worry about clumping and flaking. The special brush works with the fibers by separating eyelashes one by one.

Fiberwig's film coating resists tears, oil, and sweat. Yet when you are ready to remove, all that is needed is warm water! It is surprising warm-water-removal.
Fiberwig absorbs the warm water and then swells, making it easy to slide off your lashes. When washing your face, simply wet your lashes with warm water. Then gently slide off the fibers with your finger and thumb.

Have you ever applied mascara but mistakenly missed your lashes only to dab some on your face? Fiberwig is easy to remove. Simply wait a couple of seconds for it to dry and peal off with a Q-tip.

K: Yes.. it does peel off

Fiberwig coats each individual lash with a light film of fibers. Your lashes become film-coated lashes.

Fiberwig's light film coating defines and separates each lash while creating a fresh and natural gloss finish. Thanks to the film-coated lashes, Fiberwig will not smear nor smudge when you tear or sweat.
Wear it on hot, humid or rainy days without fear of smudging anytime, anyplace, anywhere.
Apply it in the morning for work straight through late at night without worrying about Panda-Eyes!

  1. When pulling the brush from the tube, be sure to gather plenty of fibers. You will immediately see the fibers on the brush.

  2. Start applying the fibers to your lashes by using the tip of the brush. Add fibers to both the top and bottom part of your upper lashes. This will film-coat your lashes completely.

  3. Apply fibers on the top part of your lashes too.

  4. Once fibers are added unto the lash, use the brush to stroke the lashes from root to tip until desired length is reached.

  5. To achieve the best length, be sure to dip the brush into the tube between layers to gather more fibers.

Tip: Use the tip of the mascara brush to apply the fibers. It's really just painting! Try to paint on per eyelash (the tips) the fibers, and then brush from bottom, upwards. It wont give you spider legs I promise, just coat, and coat, and brush, and brush, and your lashes will look like falsies!! I promise! - K

What I LIKE
  • Easily Removed - I remove it when washing my face at night. It says it can be removed by warm water, but even with tap water, the tubes easily slide off.
  • Smudge Proof - This mascara is really smudge proof, and it isnt sticky at all, it dries off to something you can "peel off"
  • True to it claims, apply it correctly and it gives you false lashes! I'm so happy I dont need to have a hard time putting on falsies and having it fall of my face at the end of the day
  • It gives length + volume! Compared to L'oreal Beauty Tubes which just gave length
  • It holds the curl!!!!!
What I DONT LIKE
  • Quite pricey for a mascara, but worth it
  • Hard to find!! (In my country) and some resellers overprice!
  • Needs more time to apply than regular mascara, it's because I take time to really paint and coat and paint and coat.
  • Not readily available in stores

Will I buy again?
YES!!! Again and again.. I will buy even if I still have stock.. I will buy backups for the rest of 2 years. I will buy every  month..

But Why?
This is HG material. I tell you, try one and you'll see that it is love.

Who would I recommend this to?
To those who have the moolah and the patience to apply this, and buy this online since its not readily available in stores. To those who want to wear falsies but couldnt because its hard to apply falsies. To those who are sick of smudges and panda eyes..

Damage: 650php - 1100php (around $20) (depends on where you buy, I got my first one for free!)

L'oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes

*Whew* Why do most mascaras have long names?

How to Apply
  1. Apply the white stuff on lashes DO NOT WAIT TO DRY
  2. Immediately put the black stuff on top of the white stuff
  3. Optional: Dry for 15 minutes, and then curl with an electric curler or regular eyelash curler

How to Remove
  1. Wash face
  2. While rinsing, gently rub your lashes (gentle.. gentle.. gentle.. or else they'll fall off!)
  3. Remove residue on face

What I LIKE
  • Easily Removed - I remove it when washing my face at night. It says it can be removed by warm water, but even with tap water, the tubes easily slide off.
  • Smudge Proof - This mascara is really smudge proof, I wore this one when I cried and it stayed put!
  • Defined Lashes
  • Lengthened!
What I DONT LIKE
  • Did not give me enough volume or oomph
  • Quite expensive for a drugstore brand - retails for around 850php (12 dollars)
  • Does not hold curl - Apply this after curling and it will make your curls go straight again

Will I buy again?
NO!

But Why?
The only mascara that I bought again was Maybelline's Volume Express. I already have long lashes to begin with and what I needed was volume. I like how this mascara is easily removed but hard to smudge at the same time, but I find it very lacking.

Who would I recommend this to?
I would definitely recommend this to lazy short lashed people. It really lengthens, and does what it promised. 80% longer lashes. And to people like me who are lazy to use a makeup remover at night to remove mascara residue.
