KAI Restaurant Greenbelt : 10 Hours Buta Kakuni Braised Pork Belly

Braised for 10 Hours? Really Now? 350PHP
Being a penchant for Japanese food, I was ecstatic to know that I was invited for lunch by Ms. Cathy from Vitapack Philippines at KAI restaurant at Greenbelt 5. Now I was supposed to review the other food like the dragonroll (which was delicious and addictive I tell ya) and the tuna sashimi (fresh fresh fresh). I only got the picture of the Buta Kakuni because we ate the sushi dishes so fast I did not get the change to take photos haha. (Soooo hungry)

I got the Buta Kakuni as my main course because I read several foodie sites saying that when meat is slow cooked it becomes so tender and flavorful. I was salivating while reading their reviews so I ordered this right away.

BAM!

It tasted like ordinary pork asado to my tastebuds. It didn't feel like it was cooked slowly for 10 hours because while the meat isn't tough, it is not tender either and pork is easier to tenderize than beef mind you, and I had more tender beef at Jo-Em's Malate.

I will probably eat at KAI again but for the other dishes, not this one.

Pancake House Bestsellers : Another Glutton Post

After reading the Foodie Wifey Mama's post on Pancake House, I just had to go and eat there. Good thing there's a branch nearby so my cravings were curbed.

Trivia: Did you know that they used to have a branch in Tutuban Center, Divisoria? I used to eat there tacos there with my Tita Jing

The Menu
Reminiscin again eh? I want to order almost everything on their menu, good thing there's their "Bestseller's Meal" where it includes all the food I want to munch on: Tacos, Fried Chicken, and Spaghetti. Oh, it includes a glass iced tea as well

The Meal
The Breakdown
1. The spaghetti sauce was delicious, it was the sweet pinoy style and very generous with ground beef and cheese. A fluke in this branch? The pasta was overcooked so I wasnt that happy. I like my pasta al dente. They were so overcooked they're sticking to each other.

2. The chicken was the juciest I ever ate. But there's something with their "timpla" (mix) that makes the chicken a bit sour. Do they dip in to vinegar to tenderize it? Another fluke perhaps?

3. The tacos are salty and lacking in true taco flavor. I could count the pieces of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and meat inside because it was too few. And they should not claim that they have the "best tacos in the world" because the taco seller right across our street sells better tasting tacos (with more filling mind you) at 25php per serving.

I did not stop there.. I still want to give pancakse house a chance so I ordered their waffle. Thinking that hey, maybe if I ordered something from their resto name they can redeem themselves.

Yes, a crispy waffle
THE waffle saved them (except the syrup). It was cooked perfectly crisp on the outside and soft in the inside. I also want to know what butter they used because it tasted numnumnumnum yummy I could order their butter for take out. Please tell me what butter they used.

I was however, disappointed with their waffle syrup. It tasted like ordinary sugar/water mix and then diluted with more water. It tasted like sweet water. Not the mapley kind or even the basic Kao syrup kind. Wait.. it tasted like WHITE syrup. I guess I should request for their chocolate syrup next time.

Will I eat here again? Yes I will, for their waffle, and I'll prolly bring my own syrup thank you

Are you hungry? Sir yes sir! : Army Navy Burger and Burritos

Have you ever felt so hungry that you think you can eat more than you can chew? Haha.. that's a very loopy question I'm sorry. Anyway, I was so hungry that day that instead of having my usual lunch at Piadina (their cheapo daily special hehe) it was packed full so I opted to try out the burrito at Army Navy Burger and Burrito. I got their chicken burrito, special fries (cheaper version: McDonald's twister fries), and special iced tea (which at a steep cost, tastes exactly like Wendy's iced tea)

Now we all know words are not enough.. so here are the food pics and review up ahead.

This burrito is HUGE. Twice the size of Mexicali's (twice as delicious as well)
It's jam packed frmo top to bottom with rice, spanish beans, onions, tomatoes, meat, and more. It comes with a lime sauce and a mayo-garlic dip that tastes quite similar to a shawarma sauce.
The fries are tasty, crispy, and well cooked,. Even if I was full from the Burrito I was still able to finish this

For a typical burger joint, Army Navy is pricey. But you get your money's worth with the size of the food and also the taste. So maybe if you get certain cravings, you can try and eat here. As they say in their catchy slogan "Come in hungry, come out happy" Well I came in hungry, but came out barfy from all the food I ate. HAHAHA
