RIIR MaSaya by Oliver Tolentino : Designer Eco Bags Galore

My fave model.. sya lang simple magpose pero ang lakas ng dating parang yung bag lang
They're designer bags for a cause! RIRR aka Rags 2 Riches collaborates with famous fashion designers from the Philippines to create fabuloso designer pieces made of eco-materials and getting the services of the women of payatas. It's too good to be true right? An eco bag + charity + high end fashion designer. Oh did I mention the bags are not too pricey themselves? Yeah, I was expecting people to shell out 20k+++ for this uber cute clutch bag but what do you know, the bags are all less than 5,000PHP at Rustan's. Kaya major hoarding yung ginawa nung iba yung mga madaming datung
In fairnezz mega emote ang mga models sa baglaloo nila hihi

Rags 2 Riches had their 2nd collaboration with internationally acclaimed fashion designer Mr. Oliver Tolentino
and it was an honor to having been invited to such an event! :)
Pak! O diba bongga.. clowns ang theme kasi nga masaya.. happy.. clown.. konek

They are made out of the highest quality my friend deki could not believe that it's made from payatas and eco materials.

Oh and guess what? There was a raffle at the end of the show where they pick out the business cards from the fishbowl.. and.. lucky me :) Won a Swedish Massage at Blue Water Day Spa and...

With my prize... :))

THE COLLECTION

26 October 2011; Makati City – RIIR Designer LinE, in partnership with premier universal bank, Metrobank Platinum, has redefined fashion with the launch of its latest collection of couture bags designed by internationally-acclaimed Filipino designer Oliver Tolentino. The collaboration has resulted to an awe-inspiring line of clutches and totes in vibrant hues, bold patterns and distinctly Filipino design.
Dubbed, “MaSAYA,” Tolentino draws inspiration from the blissful spirit embodied by the women of Payatas, the artisans who painstakingly hand-weaved the fabric materials used for the collection. “I wanted the bags to stand out from the typical brown, tan, black handbags.  I hope they will be conversation starters and confident women will happily and proudly share the inspiring story behind the bags,” quipped Hollywood’s most in-demand Filipino designer.
Muses cascaded the runway at the Gallery of Greenbelt 5 in original Tolentino-designed dresses, an inspiring backdrop for the eco-ethical bags. A burst of vibrant colors, the collection also showcase the “kantinares” pattern of the indigenous women of Bangued, Abra, who  celebrate their Tingguian origin by continuing their living traditions of fabric weaving in the hopes of passing it on to younger generations. Like the women of Payatas, their valued skill is also the source of their sustenance.

Fashionably Eco-Ethical
All pieces from the RIIR MaSAYA collection by Oliver Tolentino utilize scrap fabric materials that are converted into functional and high-fashion products through a process called ‘upcycling.’ The use of discarded materials is part of an advocacy to help conserve the environment while providing a sustainable source of income for the artisans behind the products.
“Sustainable fashion is the hottest thing right now and wherever I go I promote our native fabrics.  I personally have introduced them to the fashion dean of Parsons in New York, the owners of Paul Mitchell, an eco fabric charity in Hong Kong, the crowd at the Ronald Reagan 100th birthday gala, and my fashion shows in the Bahamas and Palm Springs.  I get a lot of pride out of exposing what we, Filipinos can create to people who have never seen our indigenous fabrics,” said Tolentino.
Undoubtedly one of the most celebrated designers today, Tolentino has been recognized for his contribution to haute couture all over the world. His slew of recognitions include being named Designer of the Week in March, 2011 at the prestigious Fashion Week El Paseo in Palm Springs, California, USA; he was hailed as winner of the Sustainable Eco Fashion Award in 2010 at the Islands of the World Fashion Week in the Bahamas; and one of the finalists at the Oscars Designer Challenge in 2010, among others. His collections have been regularly featured in international glossy titles like Beverly Hills Lifestyle, Serendipity, and Hong Kong Tatler.  His creations have been worn by three Grammy winners, two Emmy winners, an Oscar nominee, an NAACP Image Award winner, and by attendees at the esteemed Oscars and the Golden Globes Awards. Hollywood celebrities Cee Lo Green, Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz, Sophia Bush, Kimora Lee Simmons, Vivica Fox, Patty Austin, Macy Gray, Arnel Pineda, Lea Salonga, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Camille Grammer, Niecy Nash, Tatyana Ali, Eva La Rue, Wendy Davis, and Aly Michalka have all worn his designs.
Tolentino is known for promoting local fabrics and Filipino culture through his pieces. Tolentino and event partner Metrobank Platinum are staunch advocates of RIIR’s eco-ethical style - a coalescence of fashion, social responsibility and preservation of the environment.

Cambridge Satchels, Yay or Nay?

I became soooo depressed when I saw fake Cath Kidstons in Divisoria today, news spreads so fast that it's quickly becoming a "fad" in the Philippines and when something becomes popular.. here comes the fake goods from you know where.

I'm looking for a new bag that I can use everyday at work. Longchamps are nice but I hate how every item I have (even when inside the pouch) goes shaking inside haha.. It feels like it doesnt offer enough protection to my stuff. Hehe..

I saw this while googling-oogling...

A 14 inch red cambridge satchel... *sighs*
It looks so unique, I havent come across with a lady with a bag like this one (as of today) and I want one for myself maybe as a birthday present (oh-oh haha clue that my birthday is near?).
My only issue is that the leather looks to hard and harsh, need to see one in person. Ack, does anyone of you own one?

What do you think guys and gals and pals? Is this bag a yay or a nay?

Cath Kidston Pre-Orders

Great News! I'm taking orders for any item available on the Cath Kidston USA
I'm going to order some bags and accessories and decided to hold a pre-order to earn some extra and save shipping! This is a lot cheaper than buying from expensive ebay sellers who sell twice or up to three times the price. Or the hassle of ordering on-line + custom duties.

This is a great buy! A great bag for a new year! :) I simply love this bag because it's so chic yet functional and sturdy.

Lemming Alert! I want a Cath Kidston!!

It's relatively a new brand here in the Philippines but beware of fakes at S&R and Greenhills.
There are no official retailers for original Cath Kidston bags here and most can be bought from UK or Japan.
I don't own one yet but oil cloth and floral prints seem nice :)

Here's a useful site to Spot a Fake Cath Kidston
There's one seller on ebay but it's overpriced!

Being a mom, I need a roomy bag for both my baby and my stuff. I hate bringing two bags for both of us haha.

Lemming alert! I want a day bag!

I think it's cheaper if I used my CC and have it shipped thru Johnny Air

Investment Bags on a Budget

I am currently on my "bag-phase" and good thing my auntie was nice enough to give me some of her bags that she is not using anymore. My auntie has a severe case of bagaholicness and her bags no longer fit the custom compartment she built for them.

I also want to invest on bags that came from my hard-earned worked-for moolah, but I'm not yet ready to spend on a luxury brand so I went on and googling what bags are nice to buy even if I'm on a budget.

TheBudgetBabe.com is a great blogsite I've found that has different posts on being chic while on a budget. The post that lured me to her site was "Investment Bags on a Budget"

[1] Stella McCartney for LeSportsac Hobo, $182.99 [2] Linea Pelle 'Dylan' Patchwork Tote, $297 [3] B. Makowsky 'Berlin' Tote, $134 [4] Anthropologie 'Station-to-Station' Bag, $99.95

Let's say you've saved up around $300 to spend on a classic, high-quality handbag. Now before you go out and buy a Coach, stop and consider the following: Do you really want the same purse that every mall rat in America is carrying? Or do you want something a little bit more original, a little bit more distinct and dare I say, more fashionable? If your answer is yes (and it better be!), then keep reading for some Coach alternatives, plus ways to score a so-called investment bag on the cheap:

  • Online sample sale websites: Ruelala.com, Hautelook, Ideeli.com, and Gilt.com are great places to score a premium handbag for less. Gilt.com (http://www.gilt.com/invite/budgetbabe), my fave site at the moment, has featured GrysonBotkierLauren Merkinand other top handbag designers at drastically reduced prices. Just be sure to check out the sale the moment it starts as the most popular styles will often sell out within 15 minutes.
  • Off-price retailers: Overstock.comSmartbargains.com, and Bluefly.com all offer designer handbags without the designer prices. Some designers to look for: Linea Pelle,KoobaHayden-Harnett or Foley + Corinna.
  • Specialty apparel retailers: Anthropologie.com carries many designer labels, they just don't advertise them as such on their website. Also, keep an eye on the handbag section at BananaRepublic.com and JCrew.com. They often have beautiful leather handbags at a fraction of the price you'd pay for a top designer name.
  • Department stores: Macy's (which has been hurting financially, but that's another story...) carries this brand called B. Makowsky which is surprisingly stylish. TJ Maxx and Marshall's carry this brand, too, and I often find myself reaching for them on the racks. They look expensive and are made from genuine leather. Also, I've been really happy with my Fossil cross-body bag, a brand carried at most department stores.
  • Outlet malls: If you must have Coach or Dooney & Bourke, at least buy yours at an outlet. Never pay full price, ladies!
  • If you don't like leather: Get a chic bag by LeSportsac,Kidrobot or Matt & Nat. OK, not exactly an "investment bag" but they boast a high "cool" factor, for a low(er) price.
  • Never buy fakes: You know I've got nothing against a Steve Madden bag that looks suspiciously similar to YSL, but the fake designer goods you see on the streets of NYC or shady websites (fake Prada, Louis Vuitton, Chanel) docontribute to bad stuff like human trafficking and child labor. Besides, if you're driving a '90 Honda Accord and carrying a Louis Vuitton, you will look like a damn fool. Get yourself a good looking bag that will make you look good, too (see above!). Soapbox, off.

Happy Earth Day!! Envirosax: The Designer Reusable Bag

Another one of my addictions are bags. Of course I don't splurge on high-end designer bags, I just grab one whenever a bag gets my fancy.

While searching in google for a good shopping bag (longchamp was on my list), this bag caught my eye, the envirosax. Now what is envirosax? According to their website:

Envirosax® designer reusable bags are spreading the eco-friendly message with style!
Chic, inexpensive and compact, Envirosax® eco-friendly shopping bags carry the message of re-use to a world ready to embrace a brighter ecological future.
  • Tested for strength & safety
  • Super strong, holds 44lbs
  • Fully washable - won't fade
  • Super convenient & water-resistant
  • Fashionable & fun - a great gift idea!
  • Solution to one-use plastic bags

Since I dont get to go to malls often, I decided to grab one online, I got the design in "Marshmallow" which features a cute bunny in a light pink background. Did it live up to my expectations? Yes and more!

When I first received this bag, I was like, "what the, can this really hold up to 44lbs?" I mean, it was so light, and thin as paper! But the design was soooo cute and doesnt look cheap at all. Plus, I love the fact that it folds up into a compact size, just like a travel sized umbrella.
I used this bag everyday in my "pamamalengke" (grocery shopping) filled it up with cans, grains, etc, and it managed to hold up all that weight! Without any damage!
So over the course of time it gathered dirt etc.. so I decided to wash it (hand wash please). I was hesitant at first since I was afraid it might affect its quality or fade the print out, but it didnt. The best part is, it dried so quickly! Around 3 hours and it's ready to be used again. Love love love!

So do I recommend Envirosax? Yup!!!!
