OCM: Oil Cleansing Method and Guide

I've been silently doing this skincare for about 2 years now. I dont do 100% full OCM but occasionaly do this whenever I feel my pores are clogged and want to take a breather for a while.

I learned this from this website and it's instant effects are amazing.

Why do I like oil cleansing method?

1. Feeling the bits of dirt, whiteheads, and blackheads being sucked out of your skin is gratifying.
2. My skin has turned from oily to normal
3. Less cloggage

It's a hassle to do this daily, and I did it a bit differently. I use 70% sunflower oil with 30% castor oil and when Im lazy instead of rinsing it off with warm water, I just wipe off with wipes. (ack!) I rub it in for around 30 minutes to an hour max until I feel that my pores are really unclogged.

Here's a useful guide to help you in choosing your base oils. Be wary of using comedogenic oils at it may do more harm to your skin than good. credits to Soap Nuts

Oil About Oils

A male friend im'ed me this morning with a beauty article. I was surprised since this was your typical male-male person. :p He probably bumped about this on stumbleupon haha!
It's an article with a lot of information with oil selection and your skintype.

I currently use the following oils:

  • Virgin Coconut Oil
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Rosehip Oil (for my scars/to prevent stretchmarks)

Working With Carrier Oils: How to Select the Right Ingredient For Your Formula

With the popularity of natural skin and hair care on the rise, the variety of ingredients for formulators to choose from has become huge.  As large and varied as it is, it grows constantly.  So how can a formulator know which Carrier Oil to work with?  What differentiates one Carrier Oil from the next?  And which Oils are best for which types of formulas?
Oils
When you browse descriptions of Carrier Oils, you should look for a few key pieces of information.  These main characteristics can help you figure out if an oil is right for your formula.  First, determine the Oil's texture.  Oils can range in texture from very light and easily absorbed, to thick, slow, and greasy.  Lotions and Body Creams can use a range of textures, depending on the desired feel, and adhesion of the recipe.  Sugar and Salt Scrubs often use light to medium textured Oils, while balms and ointments lean toward the heavier textured Oils.  The following list highlights selected Oils from each category:
Light Oils
Medium Oils
Heavy Oils
Another factor in an Oil's texture is it's melting point.  Most Carrier Oils are liquid at room temperature,  but there are several Carrier Oils that remain solid until they reach a certain temperature.  Choosing an Oil with the right melting point can make or break many types of formulations, especially when product texture is important.  The following list highlights some Oils that solidify at high and low melting points.
High Melting Points
Low Melting Points
Another thing to look for when browsing Carrier Oils is the Essential Fatty Acid content.  Essential Fatty Acids are a necessary component for healthy skin, however, our bodies cannot produce them after adulthood.  Supplementing Essential Fatty Acids with diet, and skin care, can help to improve the health and appearance of your skin and hair.  Many natural Carrier Oils are rich in Essential Fatty Acids, but knowing which Fatty Acids to look for can be challenging.  To learn more about Essential Fatty Acids, check out the following article from Beauty by the Batch: Introduction to Essential Fatty Acids.
In addition to Essential Fatty Acids, many Carrier Oils boast additional nutritive properties including vitamins and minerals.  Some Oils even contain natural anti-inflammatory agents, anesthetic properties, or sun protection value.  Read each description carefully, as each ingredient will have its own unique combination of special properties and characteristics.
Finally, pay attention to any notes that mention color or aroma.  While most Carrier Oils yield little to no scent, there are some Oils that do have aroma, ranging from light to pungent.  Often, Fruit or Berry Seed Oils will have a slightly acidic scent.  This comes from their high content of Essential Fatty Acids.

Review: Kanebo Freshel White C Cleansing Oil

Hi folks! This has been long overdue since my bottle of this is empty and threw it away after a year of usage. Wootwoo! I hit another pan! This is my very first bottle of cleansing oil tried, and was my to-go tool when removing really stubborn makeup before.

But I have to admit that the reason why I finished the bottle up is because I used 50% for body cleansing. I accidentally spilled hair color on my shoulders, back, and basically my whole body which I'm afraid will stain my skin for days! (And it was also the time we were heading out to the beach)

So I used this cleansing oil to remove the henna stain all over my body and it worked quite well!

Now onto the review

What I Like
  • It's one of the cheaper cleansing oils easily available in department stores like SM. 750php (15$) per 250ml bottle.
  • It can remove stubborn mascara and makeup easily
  • Fragrance free!

What I don’t Like
  • Does not emulsify enough, I have to double wash to remove the oil film left
  • Has mineral oil as its first component, a big no no for me.

Who will I recommend this to?
To those starting out and want to try out an effective cleansing oil without breaking their bank budget.

Will I buy again?
Nope. I found better cleansing milks/oils.

Ingredients:
  • Mineral oil (paraffinum liquidum)  - A clear, odorless oil derived from petroleum that is widely used in cosmetics because it is inexpensive and rarely causes allergic reactions. It can, however, induce acne lesions.
  • Ethylhexyl palmitate - Skin conditioning agentemollientEthylparaben Preservative.
  • Peg-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate -  is an organic compound used in skin care products to aid in stabilizing oil-in-water mixtures. It is also a skin conditioning agent that acts as a lubricant on the skin surface, which gives the skin a soft and smooth appearance
  •  Diglyceryl sebacate/ isopalmitate
  • Water (aqua) - H20
  • Squalane - A topical emollient that is spreadable and soothing to the skin and is used in skincare products. Made from shark-liver oil but also found in small quantities in human sebum.
  • Olea Europaea (olive) fruit oil - Olive oil
  • Citrus unshiu peel extract - Citrus peel
  • Perilla ocymoides leaf extract
  • Tocopherol - Vitamin E

Spend vs Save: Makeup Remover : VCO to the Rescue!

I have tried Cleansing Oils, and other makeup removers, even EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), yes they work well in removing my face makeup, but darn they sting my eyes! Even the most popular cleansing oil today, the DHC cleansing oil which the main component is EVOO still sting my eyes.

Now I love tight lining, and it's a pain in the bum to remove nightly.

Now, I bought Virgin Coconut Oil from the Eco-Mart at Market Market for my itchy tummy, that ordinary lotions or creams couldnt relieve. This one did! Everytime I get the itch I just spray some on my hand and then on to the tummy.

Enough about that, more about makeup removing. This works so good! What I do is generously lather oil on my face and gently rub the eye area (not inside the eyes!). Leave it on for around 30 seconds and then wipe of with a cotton pad or ball, and then for my tight line, I use a cotton bud to remove the residue.

I then wash my face normaly with soap and water, and tada! Face clean! No sting!

Best of all, it just cost me around 80php ($1.50), cheaper than cleansing oils, cheaper than EVOO.

Now take note that there are some people allergic to Coconuts and might break out from this.

Fun Coconut Facts:
1. It actually has some Sun Protection
2. Its anti-viral and anti-fungal
3. Its safe to use everywhere! It's even edible!
