The Truth about HCG on Losing Weight

The HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) diet has been the rage in dieting for a few years now. With this diet, you can lose around 1–2 pounds (0.5–1 kg) per day.

What is the HCG diet?

Actually, HCG was introduced as a weight loss tool way back in 1954 by British doctor, Albert Simeons.

The diet is basically a low calorie, low fat diet. It’s recommended to follow it for a 3-week period to see results.

Stages of the diet

There are 3 stages of this diet:

Stage 1 – Loading Phase: During this first phase, you are told to consume very high calories and high fats for two consecutive days, and start taking in HCG. These two days are important because you’re going to be storing fat to be accessed in the next stages.

Stage 2 – Weight Loss Phase: Continue to take HCG while reducing your calorie intake to 500 calories for 3-6 weeks. During this phase, you are allowed to eat two meals, usually lunch and dinner. What You Can Eat

The HCG diet recommended meals should contain a portion of lean protein, a vegetable, one piece of bread and one piece of fruit. There is a list of recommended foods that are also allowed. This includes:

Non-starch vegetables: Lettuce, cucumbers, onions and tomatoes.

Starchy vegetables: Potatoes

Fruit: Oranges, apples, strawberries, red grapefruit (all in limited amounts)
