Games can either be a source of stress, excitement, adventure, relaxation, or a combination of any. Most of the time, I play video games online to take my mind off work and soothe it from anxiety. Relaxation. But most games, if not a lot, cause more stress and panic! You know what I mean. So that’s why I’m glad to play these games I discovered online, which helps me relax and help build my vocabulary.
Even if you’re not a writer like I am, building your vocabulary is essential. A robust vocabulary helps with all aspects of communication, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
A strong vocabulary supports precise writing and helps you avoid using ambiguous terms, from action words to descriptive words and beyond. As your vocabulary expands, you will be able better to explain unique surroundings, emotions, and concepts.
Now on today’s post, not only am I going to share with you games that can build your vocabulary, they’re great for calming anxiety too!
3 Relaxing Games You Can Play Online to Build Your Vocabulary
Everyday, the site (solitaire.org) uploads a new crossword puzzle. Just like a traditional puzzle in your local newspaper, you fill in the boxes with words based on the clues indicated on the left side of your screen.
It’s quite easy to use, and with hints too. If you guessed a letter correctly it turns green, red if not. There’s also a soft music playing in the background to match the ambiance!
Daily Word Search
This game requires you to search for the word in a grid. You can choose from either 12×12, 14×14, of 16×16. You click and drag your cursor to select the word if you’ve found it. Hint-hint! It can be written horizontaly, diagonally, vertically, and backwards. Whenever you finish x number of words, more will pop-up! Challenging and satisfying at the same time.
They also have a print version available so you can play this game offline, with your grandparents hee-hee 🙂
I think, out of the three games, this is my favorite. Mechanics are pretty simple. You have to form words out of the letters that are dropped out of your screen. Make sure your fingers are fast because a few letters only stay there for a certain amount of time. The longer word you create, the higher your score.
You can all play these games for FREE at solitaire.org, and surprisingly its ad-free. So you can play all you want without the stress of annoying advertisments popping here and there. All of these games have a matching soft background music that help ease the stress away. Whew. Enjoy relaxing while perfecting your english vocabulary!
