What? Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer in SX7
How much does it cost? 2,500PHP/ 48USD
Where to buy? mupstore.com

This was a part impulse part planned purchase. I’ve been aching to purchase a new base makeup because Laneige Snow BB Cushion wasn’t working for me anymore. I wanted something I can wear during night outs sans the SPF that gives the ghastly white cast. I tried the ever famous Naturactor concealer in both shades of 150 and 151 but both shades didn’t really match my skintone which was light-medium olive. After careful researching and reading my good blogger friend Rae’s (scatterbraintures.com) feedback on this one. I had to get one for myself by hook or by crook! LOL. It’s not even tagged as a foundation on it’s own, rather, a skin enhancer. But what is it really?

According to Kevyn Aucoin.. A multi-tasking formula for creating a gorgeous, flawless complexion.
The Sensual Skin Enhancer was created to mimic the appearance of healthy, radiant skin. It can be used as a spot foundation, concealer, all-over foundation, highlighter (choose a shade lighter than your actual skin tone) or mixed with your moisturizer for a tinted moisturizer effect – the possibilities are endless! Honey and jojoba oil create a soft, dewy finish as well as lend themselves to the formula’s silky texture. It may be applied with the fingers, a brush or a sponge (wet or dry) for any desired finish. Apply over The Sensual Skin Primer for a smooth texture, and top with The Gossamer Loose Powder if you prefer a matte look. No matter how you wear it, The Sensual Skin Enhancer leaves the complexion with a fresh, flawless finish.

Ingredients

  • Mineral Oil, Polybutene, Diethylhexyl Succinate, Polyethylene, Quaternium-18 Hectorite, Calcium Carbonate, Dextrine Palmitate, Honey, Jojoba Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Beeswax, Cholesterol, Lecithin, Talc, Triethylhexanoin, Methylparaben, Fragrance, Iron Oxides
The ingredients list of the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer is pretty simple. Pigment, Oils, and Preservatives. It does have honey in it so a word of caution. I know some people allergic to honey (among other allergies).

Texture

It has a very, very, very thick cream texture. I find it challenging to blend if used on its own. This product was made to be combined with different products. That’s why it has very basic ingredients. You can be your own mad magician and mix it with oils, primers, moisturizers, anything you can think of!

This tiny pot holds tons of product. I doubt you can finish this before it expires. I like mixing mine with some coconut oil and silicone primer. If I’m lazy, I just mix it with CC cream to provide more coverage and make it my shade.

Swatch

The best way to test a foundation or concealer’s coverage is swatching it on my inked arm. Using that tiny bit of product on my finger on the earlier photo, it managed to cover my feather tattoo. I can cover my whole tattoo if I wanted to using the same small amount too, I was just too lazy to blend and spread out. On the photo below, I used it on my entire face mixed with a generic silicone primer. I got the shade SX7 which is more suitable for light-medium olive/neutral skin. It still has a bit of yellow in it so it’s more natural. I think this is best for light skin filipina women like I am.
It has a slight dewy-ness to it. It’s not matte, it’s not flat.

Review

There are many things that I love about Kevyn Aucoin is its flexibility. You can make this work with your favorite moisturizer or oil so any skin type can use this. If you don’t like to cover your entire face you can also use this as a spot concealer for its excellent coverage. The amount of product you have and it’s range of use makes up for its rather steep price.
While this may not be the product for you if you’re always crunched up for time because you have to mix it pa. I recommend this to ladies who wants to primp up for the night and wants to look naturally good. It has a dewy finish which I love! Dewy and not oily, it also looks better as you go through your day.
Staying power is superb, well it could depend on what you mix with it. I used it as a spot concealer on its own one time and it lasted the whole day without retouching. I did set it using my BYS Translucent HD Powder

Will I buy again?

Definitely, this is among my new holy grail of foundations. If you’re lazy and want something to swipe lang and then you’re good to go, I recommend Shiseido UV Foundation which has a super high and water resistant SPF to boot.
