Review: Tenya Tempura Tendon at BGC Stopover
I have a new Japanese food addiction and it’s no other than TEMPURA. My Niku Udon phase is finally over and it’s now replaced by glorious shrimp covered in crispy tempura batter. I have tried several from different restaurants but my current favorite is Tenya Tempura. They have branches in MOA, BGC, and SM Megamall. Geof and I just came from a spa session at Suaviss and boy oh boy were are stomachs grumbling. I was so happy that just below Suaviss is TENYA TEMPURA!
What is tempura? is a Japanese dish of seafood or vegetables that have been battered and deep fried. (source: wikipedia). Tenya Tempura Tendon is the only food place that I know of that showcases tempura as their primary dish. The branch that I went into is conveniently located in BGC Stopover. Just below my favorite dessert place, Hobing Bingsu.
Another of mommy and geof day out!
We were the first ones to arrive. I bet their place gets packed by lunch time or dinner!
I ordered their shrimp tendon with green beans. UGH SHRIMPS ARE THE BEST! I CAN EAT THEM IN ANY FORM! EVEN RAW!
The batter is lightly seasoned and fried to a crisp. Covering the shrimp with the right amount. My tiny qualm is the consistency. Some pieces are crunchy, some are soggy. What I love most about Tenya is their special sauce. It’s so umami, like salty, sweet, and hints of spices. It’s perfect on your tempura, or even as sauce on your rice. Their sauce is quite addicting!
The service was great in BGC. The staff was friendly, food arrived on time, and place looked clean. They also serve other dishes like katsu, sushi, and curry.
I’ll definitely comeback to Tenya Tempura and eat at other branches when possible. A new favorite!!!!!!!!
