Maxi Peel Exfoliant Review

The story on how I got curious to try maxi-peel is short and sweet. It’s a known fact that I’ve been blogging since 2010 and during those years, I’ve gained several readers and friends who really follow through from thick and thin. One of those is Rae from ScatterBraintures.com. I remember her commenting on some of my posts that are actually written from the heart and interesting. I guess she has a knack for filtering which ones are promotions and those that I have a HUGE enthusiasm for because I bought it from my own money! In this post I will share my thoughts, opinions, and research on maxi-peel!

We had a quick lunch and our discussion was make-up and skin-care filled! I noticed how her skin really improved and she mentioned using maxi-peel. It’s because her derma recommended something called CHAT 2% (clindamycin, hydroquinone, and tretinoin?) and that maxi-peel was a good and affordable alternative. IF you know how to use it properly and with precaution.

*waves hands* Hi Rae! ^_^

What is Maxi-Peel Exfoliant Solution? Kutis Artista?

Maxi-Peel Exfoliant Solution is a medicinal treatment for the skin being sold EVERYWHERE. Based on the carton box it says it promotes skin renewal. It also claims it works as fast as 2 weeks. Maxi-peel is a over the counter drug. It’s medicine. It’s not a regular toner that you can just apply when you want.

Maxi-Peel Active Ingredients

Tretinoin and Hydroquinone

What is Tretinoin?

(from: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a682437.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tretinoin)
Tretinoin is used to treat acne. It promotes peeling of affected skin areas and unclogs pores. Tretinoin controls acne but does not cure it.
Tretinoin is the carboxylic acid form of vitamin A and is also known as all-trans retinoic acid or ATRA. It is a first generation topical retinoid commonly used to treat acne vulgaris and keratosis pilaris. It is available as a cream or gel (brand names Aberela, Airol, A-Ret, Atralin, Avita, Retacnyl, Refissa, Renova, Retin-A, Retino-A, ReTrieve, or Stieva-A). The most common strengths are 0.025%, 0.05% and 0.1%

What is Hyrdoquinone?

(from: http://www.skinacea.com/faq/treatments/t10-why-hydroquinone-is-bad.html)
Hydroquinone is a skin lightener used in many whitening creams and dark mark fade treatments. It reduces the production of melanin in your skin, so it is great for fading hyperpigmentation, acne marks, sun spots, melasma, and other skin discoloration issues. It is one of the active ingredients in the popular Obagi skin care line.
If you have extremely stubborn hyperpigmentation issues that absolutely do not respond to any other kind of treatment (i.e. chemical peels, microdermabrasionretinoidslaser, etc.), hydroquinone may be your skin’s last resort. What hydroquinone is to hyperpigmentation is what Accutane is to acne. Hydroquinone should only be used if and only if you have exhausted all other treatment options.

Negative Effects of Hyrdoquinone

This is not supposed to scare you but to inform you that improper use of this solution may cause you to have severe skin discoloration like these.

Positive Effects of Hyrdoquinone

But with careful use. It can actually work wonders on your skin if you are really suffering from severe skin condition like dermatitis, pimples, acne, blackheads, whiteheads, skin pigmentation.

How to Apply Maxi Peel

The instructions are in Tagalog 😐

You have to open the carton to reveal an instruction written in tagalog. I got the tip on how to apply from my good friend Rae of ScatterBraintures.com. So I think this would be easier to understand.
I got the solution in #1 which is the MILDEST of them all but boy was it still strong

  1. Put a really small amount on your cotton pad. Don’t soak it with solution. Just enough so you can pat it on.
  2. Lightly swipe your cotton pad in an upwards motion ever so gently on your forehead, cheeks, nose, chin. AVOID the eye, nostril, and lip area at all costs.
  3. If it still stings, sit in front of a fan
  4. USE A SUNBLOCK. Please, never use this and then not use a form of sun protection. Using maxi-peel makes your skin thinner and more sensitive to the sun. Here are a few good sunblocks this 2014 if you’re trying to look for one.

I only tried this 2x and used it once a week. Putting this everyday would be too harsh and strong and may cause you irritation like skin peeling, a lot of acne (detox), and skin pigmentation. It will also increase your skin sensitivity

Final thoughts on Maxi Peel Exfoliant Solution

Before: A! A pimple!
After maxi-peel. My skin has a lot of redness already the morning after.

You know what? I got tempted and allured with the “Kutis-Artista” commercial of maxi-peel being posted everywhere on-line and on TV commercials. But after careful research and also trying it on myself. I realized I do not need to use maxi-peel for a long time.
It is too strong for my taste and I believe this should be used by people who have really big problems on acne (see photos above) My friend Rae used this and it worked WONDERS on her skin. Nag kutis artista talaga. I’ll use this ocassionaly when my skin needs that timely chemical peeling and save money from going to the dermatologist.

Will it maxi-peel give you kutis artista? To some yes. Hiyangan talaga.

Other Safe Exfoliant Alternatives

  1. AHA (Alpha-hydroxy Acids)
  2. BHA (Beta-hydroxy Acids)
  3. Manual Exfoliation (Diamond Peel, Face Brushing, Microfiber)
  4. Yakult Toner / Mask
For others who wants to try this. I hope this post/review helps you. If you do not have a really bad skin condition. If you only have a pimple or two, you don’t need this. There are a lot of safer exfoliation options if you really want to exfoliate your skin once in a while.
HAPPY WEEKEND!
