Should You Quit Your Day Job and Pursue Your Passion? | On Changes and New Beginnings
I can’t believe that after going through everything I had in my life, I am now coming up with a write-up that brings up so much feels. Hi there! I’m Kaycee Enerva also known as The Macho Mom of kikaysikat.com. The blog that you’re visiting right now. But before becoming a full-time blogger, did you know that I was an employee who worked 9 to 5? (3-12, 11-8, depending on the rotation shift). I never imagined making a career out of blogging. But looks like there’s no turning back.
Should you quit your day job and pursue your passion?
My life has been an emotional roller coaster and it won’t fit a single article even if I try. So today I’ll just share with you a slice from my pie. Changes. *cue in Changes in My Life by Mark Sherman*
I had to attach the music video in case most of you Gen-Z and Millennials can’t relate. I’m a millennial myself but with an old soul.
My Past “Life”
I was a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in PLM (naks resume?). From hard-work and the influence of my type-A blockmates, I was able to land a high-paying job immediately in a well-known IT company. I hopped from one company to the next, hoping to gain experience and better pay. My initial goal was to look and feel more confident.
I’m sure a lot of you can relate to this inspite of having a different type of job:
- Waking up wee hours in the morning to avoid getting caught in rush hours
- Kung shifting ka, get ready to work with ghost officemates
- Lunch break
- Pag sweldo you eat somewhere bongga with your office friends
- Coffee break chismis time
- Pag may birthday it’s either pizza or Amber’s (pichi-pichi!)
- Yung sanay ka mag alt+tab para hindi mabuking ni bossing na may iba kang ginagawa on the side
and that ibang ginagawa on the side was blogging. Blogging was and still is my passion. Not because I love to write per-se, but because I love to share stories and experiences to others.
The Breaking Point
I had to weigh things out. Everything was becoming routinary at the office. I went there because it pays the bills. Kahit naman noong college ako. The course I wanted to take was Journalism pero an IT-related job paid more (during that time). My blog was already semi-active back then. To the point where I escape from work sometimes to attend an event hahaha!
Until my blog started earning more than what I was in my day-job. And I had to choose between the 2 because if I don’t, both will take damage. (also, I’m a single mom and Geof needs me more than ever)
That’s when I decided to take the big leap. The big change. I QUIT MY DAY JOB. But not because my goal started with “I want to earn in blogging”. It just so happened that my working on my passion paid off.
Working on my passion paid off
Should You Quit Your Day Job and Pursue Your Passion?
Don’t be afraid of change. Because sometimes getting out of our comfort zones can make us grow as a person. I did, and I’m happy. Yes you’ll have hesitations and fears so think about it well. Weigh out your options. Go what you think is best for you. Stay committed and not regret.
Because failure is not the opposite of success. It’s just part of the process.
All through my blog’s lifespan, one of the most popular reviews that get tons of hits was my Gluta-C Skin Whitening Soap Review . It was because my review was real.
