What is Senna?
Senna is common in the Philippines as a weight loss “tea” but in reality it is just a laxative that helps make you poop. A LOT. Senna is a natural medicine containing sennosides that are derived from the leaves of the senna plant. Sennosides irritate the lining of the bowel causing a laxative effect.
Senna has been used in alternative medicine as a laxative and an aid to treat constipation.
Not all uses for senna have been approved by the FDA. It should not be used in place of medication prescribed for you by your doctor.
Senna is often sold as an herbal supplement. There are no regulated manufacturing standards in place for many herbal compounds and some marketed supplements have been found to be contaminated with toxic metals or other drugs. Herbal/health supplements should be purchased from a reliable source to minimize the risk of contamination.
Senna for Weight Loss
Anything you lose with Senna is just excess food and water. The same thing you excrete when you poop on a regular basis. The difference is that, this makes you poop, A LOT. Like 4x in 2 hours. So what you lose isn’t really “fat”. You just lose water weight. Drink and rehydrate and notice you look the same.
I’m no hypocrite, I drink Senna when I’m constipated and bloated because this works AMAZING on my constipation that even fiber cannot help.
When drinking Senna, whether in tea form or capsule form. Make sure you drink at least 10-12 glasses of water daily. I also do not recommend drinking this daily. It upsets your digestive system and make you dependent. I suggest taking this only when you’re having a hard time excreting waste and not for weight loss.
