Block and White Intensive Whitening Lotion Review

I bought this out of a whim. In search of a body lotion because my skin is as dry as a chalkboard.
*insert picture of skin with chalkboard mark* I told myself that I will never use lotions because I simply just don’t have enough time (excuses) or baka tamad lang talaga! Pero last time I told myself, mag lolotion na talaga ko! What’s the use of having fair skin kung if it’s dry right?

Now I’m a firm believer that in order to achieve your skin’s whitest and fairest using one product is not enough. For example you can’t just use whitening soap alone. Well you could if you are taking whitening pills internally like glutathione.  I got this from my favorite store to buy random things, Watson’s together with other whitening lotion samplers so I can try which one is the best for me. I’m planning to make reviews of them too including those not-so-popular lotions.

I have 3 solid factors I look for in a good whitening lotion

Lotion Factor #1 SUNSCREEN

Sunscreen. It must have a high SPF. A high sun protection to make sure my skin is protected from the harsh uva and uvb rays that not only cause our skin to darken, but it also makes us prone to early signs of skin aging!

Lotion Factor #2 TEXTURE

Texture. It must be easy to apply and non-sticky. Gosh the thing I hate most about some moisturizers for the body is how sticky they can be especially those with higher SPF. I remember trying the KB Whitening Lotion that has a super thick and hard to spread consistency that I just gave it away.

Lotion Factor #3 WHITENING and MOISTURE

Last but not the least, what whitening ingredients to they put on their lotions? Is it within the top 10 listed on their ingredients list. I mentioned on my other post that only those that is listed in the top 10 are the ingredients that have the most number in the product. Effective whitening ingredients can be papain, arbutin, and niacinamide. Moisturization is of course the biggest factor. It’s the reason why we use lotion anyways right? Look for the following: tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), glycerin (keeps moisture intact our skin) or essential oils like grapeseed, coconut, or olive oil.

THOUGHTS AND REVIEW

I wouldn’t say this is the best whitening lotion I’ve tried. My search continues. The good thing about block and white lotion is the high SPF it has (SPF24) that is enough protection if you just walk through and fro from work or the grocery. It’s also affordable and can be bought anywhere. It’s good enough to slather on day or night to your body. In terms of moisture, My skin feels less taught but I’m looking for something more. It’s easy to spread and it is not sticky compared to other lotions out in the market like Vaseline or Skin White.
It’s active whitening ingredient is Niacinamide or vitamin B3 that’s also the main ingredient in Pond’s Whitening Products like their creams. It’s pretty common in drugstore products because it’s pretty cheap. Niacinamide works by changing the dark melanin pigment into lighter ones but only on the up-most layer of the skin. Meaning, if you stop using the product, your skin goes back to its orginal color. The whitening is temporary and superficial.

RECOMMENDATION

I’d recommend this if you’re in dire need of a lotion and need to buy ASAP. For example, you’re out of town and this is the only thing you can buy! 😛 It’s not one for the books but it is good enough.

WILL I BUY AGAIN?

Unfortunately no. I haven’t found my holy grail whitening lotion yet so stay tuned!
