Review: Metamucil in Orange Smooth

What? Metamucil in Orange Smooth
Where to buy? Selected Mercury Drug Outlets
How much? 770php for 48 servings

I think the last time I took fiber supplements before was 5 years ago when I was desperate to lose weight. I did a lot of stupid things (and I think I still do now) and learned from my mistakes along the way. Fiber drinks are not meant for you to lose weight. It’s meant to regulate our bowel movement, sugar, cholesterol level and ease bloating. I decided to give it another shot after attending an intimate launch held at M-Cafe at Greenbelt. Fiber it is! I need to try it because shh.. I’m constipated -_- For tummy tuesdays let’s talk about Metamucil.

What is Metamucil in Orange Smooth?

Power your health from the inside with Metamucil Multi-health fiber powder by Meta – a great way to add fiber to your day. Metamucil is the only leading fiber supplement containing psyllium fiber for multi-health benefits. Metamucil Multi-Health fiber powder helps you feel less hungry between meals*, helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels as part of your diet*, helps lower cholesterol to promote heart health† and promotes digestive health*. No surprise Metamucil is the #1 doctor-recommended fiber brand. †Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 7 grams of soluble fiber per day from psyllium husk, as in Metamucil, may reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol. One adult serving of Metamucil Powder has 2.4 grams of this soluble fiber.

How to Take Metamucil Orange Smooth

I mix 1 teaspoon to 250ml glass of water and stir it really… really.. really fast. Drink it immediately too because the longer you let it sit for a while, the more gelatinous it becomes and harder to drink. It’s best to drink this 2-3 hours before going to bed.

Review

I’ve been taking this on a daily basis to help with my constipation and bloating. If drunk in super fast speed, it tastes pretty nice. Like your regular old powdered orange juice drink. Tang? Eight O Clock? Haha.. I don’t know why blogging for the longest time made me weary of mentioning brands in my posts. Parang masyadong play-safe. Ayyy kaasar! Drinking this at night makes me have regular bowels in the morning and a nice flat tummy.  I did a bit of research and it does wonders for those who have high cholesterol and diabetics.
See a review I found from Amazon
“Everybody knows what Metamucil does. It has been on the market so long because it does it well. I take this product because my Doctor recommended it for good digestive and cardiac health. Some people (my Doctor included) feel that the benefits of a diet high in fiber, in this case psyllium, go beyond the GI tract and are beneficial to other physical systems. I have been taking this for several years (I take the capsules when I travel) with no side effects. Some people find the taste a bit objectionable, but I guess that I am just used to it by now.

Psyllium is used in Metamucil because of its very high mucilage content. Mucilage is the term used to describe a group of gelling agents made from plant fibers. Mucilage is made by grinding or milling the outer layer of the seed. Mucilage made from “Plantago” seeds is called psyllium husk. The mucilage from psyllium husk is a hydrophilic (water-loving), white, fibrous material. When water is absorbed (in this case in the intestines), the mucilaginous gel that forms increases in volume by more than a factor of ten, which, of course, is why it is extremely effective as a bulk laxative, as it is not digested by the small intestine. Because of this, psyllium mucilage serves to absorb excess water, while simultaneously stimulating gastrointestinal elimination.”

Would I Repurchase?

It is sorta expensive but if you don’t get to eat a lot of fiber like I do (because I don’t like veggies -_-) then we need to have a fiber substitute like this one. So it’s a yes for me. It’s a big plus that it tastes good too.
