Fact or Fiction: Can You Lose Weight Without Exercise (or Dieting)?

This is one of the most common questions I receive on my blog.  “Hi Ms Kaycee! Is it possible to lose weight without exercise or diet?”.

WHAT.

Did someone just ask me if pigs can fly or if the Philippines can finally see progress within the next 3 years? I don’t think so. We can look at it this way. Weight loss = Calories In – Calories Out. Meaning you shed the pounds if the result is negative. I DON’T BELIEVE IN EXTREME CALORIE RESTRICTION for losing weight. Especially those 1,200 calorie diet fads ugh gross. Before we go through and answer the question by means of science and research. Here are a few posts I recommend reading if you really want to get fit.

Lose weight without exercise? It sound’s crazy, but it’s possible. Here are 10 things you can do that can supplement your fitness habits so you get to shed off those excess pounds without any effort.

Ways to Lose Weight Without Exercise or Dieting

1. Sleep

Consistent, high quality sleep is the most underestimated aid to help you lose weight without exercise, hands down. If you get that all out of whack, you can kill yourself in the gym and eat green salads and grilled chicken breasts all you want, but none of it will help you lose weight. In fact lack of sleep can make your body crave to eat more junk.

Seven to nine hours every night is what we want to achieve. I usually have 6 hours of sleep and I’m aiming for 7 *sigh*

2. Starting the Day with Protein

Also, make it a point to start your morning with protein.

In order to turn your body into a fat-burning machine, you have to get a minimum of 20 grams in the morning. With this, you’ll stabilize your blood sugar, reduce cravings, and keep full for a longer period of time. My recommendation? A tall glass of protein shake or bacon and eggs for breakfast!

3. Lessen Your Cardio Workouts

If you know me very well and frequently visit my instagram, you can tell I’m what you call an anti-cardio advocate.

Too much cardio destroys your body, and is one of the easiest ways to suppress your thyroid.

As if that’s not bad enough, long-duration cardio doesn’t build muscle, which means it has little impact on the long-term caloric burn you need to lose those pesky pounds.

You can only get that kind of long-term burn you want by raising your metabolic rate, and the only way you can do that is by strength training. Building more muscle will allow your body to burn fat even when you’re not working out, so that’s what you want to aim for.

4. Bring in the Lactobacilli Baby!

Your stomach’s health is a huge component of your ability to lose weight.

Studies have shown that obese and overweight people have a different set of bacteria in their colon than healthy, lean people.

With this in mind, you should aim to improve the quality of the microorganisms in your gut. That means, more reason to drink yakult. YAYYYYY!

Final Thoughts

Remember,  getting fit is not about suffering through a restrictive diet or killing yourself on the treadmill!  It’s about setting up your body to operate in its best!
